Two ho-ho-home wins for St Leonards D

22 December, 2013    Helen Potter

St Leonards D are in second place in Division 3a after wins over both Axminster and Honiton B.  The team of Elaine Nicholson & Ali Rehemi, Liz Goodwin and Lee Clatworthy and Anne Trevena & Martin Matthews beat Axminster 7-2 and capitalised on their good form when 3 days later they beat Honiton B 8-1, with Sue Morrish taking the place of Elaine Nicholson. Ali Rehemi was unbeaten for St Leonards in both matches.  Axminster beat Clyst Vale B 7-2 with Sari Brice & Jay Sweetman and Sandy Sheldon & Lester Cawley unbeaten for Axminster.

In Division 1 the Cranford A team of Sarah Findel-Hawkins & Jamie Roberton, Sandra Lear & Zac Phillips and Lisa Stevens & Joe Davies beat the University 8-1 with the University’s point coming from Lucy Manley & Tom Fenner in a deciding third end.

Just 1 point separates the top three teams in Division 2a after Sidmouth A celebrated wins over Ringswell B and St Leonards C. In the team’s 7-2 win over Ringswell B, Ruth Scrivens & John Carter and Hannah Oxley & Chris Bird were unbeaten. The team then went on to beat St Leonards C 9-0, led by Hannah & Chris with Claire Turnstill partnering John and Grace Williams & James Newcombe completing the team.  Ringswell B denied St Leonards C their first win of the season when they edged a 5-4 victory in a close match, Sylvia Child and Guy Rollisson were unbeaten for Ringswell.  Sylvia was also unbeaten, this time partnered by Phil Matthews, when Ringswell B beat Otter Vale A 7-2. The remaining Ringswell pairs of Sharon Strong & Ben Boyland and Anne Jones & Brian Jeary each picked up two points with both of Otter Vale’s points being won by Teresa Simic & Ray Puttick.

All three matches played in Division 2b have resulted in the same scoreline, 5-4!  Hilary Herd & Paul Carter led the way for Sidmouth B in their defeat of Chulmleigh.  When Sidmouth B met Otter Vale B, an injury sustained by a Sidmouth player meant they conceded two rubbers, but still managed to overcome Otter Vale B 5-4 with the only unbeaten pair being on the losing side, Anne Drury & Andy O’Brien for Otter Vale.  The Chulmleigh versus Ringswell C match could well end up as one of the closest of the season with seven rubbers being decided in the third end. Chulmleigh’s Ruth Crumby & Mat Older were unbeaten and with team mates Karen Parish & Adrian Bourner and Michelle Wylde & Ben Hamill each picking up a point, Chulmleigh won the match 5-4.
