Ringswell A Ladies on cusp of being champions

29 March, 2019    Andy Rowe

In Division 1 a first for the season – a 4-2 result! Ringswell A strengthened their hold at the top by beating title rivals Queens by this rare scoreline. They are now on the cusp of retaining the title they won last season, as they now have a 6 point lead, with 1 match to play.

The Ringswell team of Claire Harrison, Nikita Smethurst, Marion Ginger and Chloe Tsang ran out winners but Sarah Preece made sure Queens also came away with points after bagging a brace of wins, with Leoni Bishop and Grace Lee.

An unchanged Ringswell then went on to beat Exeter 6-0, with all rubbers settled in 2 games.

Julia Melling was in the starting line up for Exeter for the first time this season, and helped her teammates, Stacey Horne, Katie Scotter and Theresa Ford, to a 6-0 win over Otter Vale A.

The Ringswell B team of Chloe Tsang, Liz Marker, Sylvia Child and Becky Bailey also got the better of Otter Vale A. They came away with a 5-1 win to notch up their 4th win of the season. Otter Vale’s Teresa Simic and Jo Smith won the first rubber of the match to rescue a point.

Sarah Preece led her Queens teammates, Leoni Bishop, Grace Lee and Mandy Bishop, to an emphatic 6-0 win over Otter Vale A to keep their title hopes mathematically alive going into their final match.

The race to the Division 2 title is too close to call.

Chulmleigh have given themselves every chance of winning, by extending their unbeaten run to 6 matches.

The Chulmleigh team of Michelle Wylde, Karen Parish, Jackie Anderson and Fiona Marshall made the long trip south to Exmouth and were rewarded with a 5-1 win. The match was played in great spirit and Cranford fully deserved to get on the scoreboard with Mo Martin and Lianne O’Donnell winning the first rubber of the match.

Chulmleigh had a walk over Honiton, who were sadly unable to raise a team.

Lorna See replaced Jackie Anderson for the crunch match over title rivals Otter Vale B. The match had several close games but Chulmleigh came away with a 6-0 win.

Cranford drew their second match of the season with a 3-3 draw with Sidmouth. Theresa Bisson made her debut for Sidmouth, but she and her partner Hilery Herd were edged out 21-18, 21-14 in the final rubber by Lianne O’Donnell and Karen Buckingham-Smith to ensure honours were shared in the match.
