Queens A made a great start in their bid to retain their crown as division one winners for the third season in a row after beating top of the table rivals Exeter A 6-3.

The Crediton-based team won the division by just four points last season over Exeter with a win apiece against each other, but the team of Jamie Roberton/Bronya Pike, Nathan Scase/Sarah Preece and Ian Kirby/Hannah Preece each won two rubbers in a match described as having great play.

But it is Exeter A who top the table though after an 8-1 win over their B team, with three points coming from Sam Lees/Julia Melling and Mark Trebble/Suzanne Owens - Geoff Littler and Rowan Despard with the consolation point for Exeter B.

Ringswell B are the early division two leaders wins two wins from two so far. Despite having just two pairs, Becky Bailey/Joe Davies and Sylvia Child/Mike Yuan combined to win five out of six matches to edge relegated Sidmouth A to a 5-4 win. And with a full team available, they beat Otter Vale A 9-0.

Queens B beat St Leonards B 8-1 in the other fixture – with Pike/Scase and Kate Povey/Ben Jordan winning all three matches – Andy Rowe/Nikki Anslow with the win for St Leonards B.

Sidmouth B top a closely contested third division with all three matches ending 5-4. Led by the undefeated pair of James Newcombe/Grace Williams, they edged out Otter Vale B 5-4 before beating a two-pair Honiton team by the same score. Despite Newcombe/Williams again winning all three matches, it wasn’t enough though against St Leonards C, as Daniel Cordey/Sharon May won a vital ninth rubber to secure a 5-4 win for the Exeter-based side.
