27 January, 2013    Andy Rowe

In Division 1 Queens A have started the New Year with a trio of wins to move into second place. The Queens pairs of Ben Watkins/ Tim Goode and Ben Herbert / Kevin Cobbledick were unbeaten to steer Queens to an 8-1 win over 2 pair Ringswell A. Paul Owens and Ian Walsh rescued a point for Ringswell. Queens Tim Goode and Simon Brassington led from the front with 3 wins as their team overcame Sidmouth A 7-2. Teammates Ben Watkins, Nick Mingo, Ben Herbert and Ed Moffatt bagged a brace of wins. Sidmouth’s points came courtesy of the pairs of Luke Oxley/Harry Williams and Paul Carter/Steve Pritchard.

University’s relegation fears have been compounded following an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Queens A.

Ringswell A enjoyed their best win of the season in beating Cranford 6-3. Nigel Osborne and Steve Rice were on song with 3 wins with teammates Paul Owens and Guy Rollinson pitching in with 2 wins.

In Division 2 the Leagues youngest player – 12 year old Lloyd Skinner – showed his potential by winning 2 rubbers to help guide his Queens B team to an 8-1 win over Otter Vale.

In Division 3 Honiton’s winning run continues after a 7-2 win over 2 pair Ringswell B. Roger Tucker, Ethan Leach, James Goody and Jay Sweetman were on song for Honiton. Ringswells pair of Brian Jeary and Chris Gould battled hard and were rewarded with one win after narrowly losing 2 mammoth 3 setters.
Exeter D were indebted to Ian Halliday and James Bryant for securing their 2nd win of the season. The scores were tied going into the final rubber but they triumphed 21-19, 21-9 over Graham Munday and Dave Bromage to seal the win 5-4.  Sidmouths James Newcombe and Graham Baker finished unbeaten with 3 wins.
Simon Heusen returned to action after being sidelined through injury for over 12 months to inspire his Sidmouth B team to a 5-4 win over previously unbeaten St Leonards C. Sidmouths Graham Baker and James Newcombe starred with 3 wins but it was left to Simon Heusen and Dave Bromage to beat the saints Mike Lamboll and Matt Knight in the final rubber 19-21, 28-26, 21-10 to secure the win.
