Ringswell A and Queens are still matching each other point-for-point at the top of Division 1 in what has become a two horse race for the title.
Ringswell A went top of the league after they won 7-2 in their interclub derby against Ringswell B, with seven comfortable wins, but Adrian Freeman/Liz Marker picked up two points from three for the B team, both coming after first set losses, a tight second set win, and then an easy third set win.
Queens matched Ringswell A after they beat Exeter A 7-2 to put both teams on 38 points – 25 clear of third placed Exeter. Ian Kirby/Sarah Preece were unbeaten for Queens, with Exeter’s points coming from Sam Lees/Julia Melling.
Ringswell A and Queens have yet to play each other and meet for the first time on Thursday.
Just one match has been played in Division 2A, which saw St Leonards B end Otter Vale A’s unbeaten record and leapfrog them to go second in a match that saw six of the nine rubbers go the distance. Dan Cordey/Sharon May were unbeaten for St Leonards, as Brian Deem/Teresa Simic picked up the two points for Otter Vale. Sidmouth A still hold a commanding lead at the top of the table though.
Otter Vale B have re-taken the lead at the top of Division 2B and will hold it until at least mid-March after winning both of their January fixtures. A 7-2 win over Otter Vale C ended a three-match losing streak, with both Tom Bennett/Mya Walker and James Burgess/Helen Cavilla going unbeaten, before they thrashed bottom side Honiton 9-0.
Ringswell C are second, four points behind Otter Vale B, but do have two games in hand, after also winning 9-0 against Honiton, dropping just one set. Sidmouth B are third after a 5-4 win over Otter Vale C, who unfortunately had to play with just two pairs after Peter Sweetman picked up an injury in the warm-up. Andy O’Brien/Anne Drury and Gordon Hutchings/Sue O’Brien each won two matches, but neither could beat Matt Sach/Grace Williams, which gave Sidmouth the win.
