Phillips Nine-Hitters take Exeter B into 2013 at the Top

Exeter B’s domination of Division 2 continues. Their team of Gareth Pearse, Geoff Littler, Tom Phillips, Sam Owens, Ryan Parker-Bowker and Garry Bourner notched up their 5th and 6th  9-0 wins of the campaign at Otter Vale and St Leonards A.

Exeter B had the measure of their clubmates Exeter C, winning by a comfortable 7-2 scoreline, to stretch their lead at the top to an almost unassailable 32 points.
A solid team performance from St Leonards A ensured a 6-3 win over Exeter C. The Saints pairs of Phil Nicholls, Tim Wardale, Guy Sweetman, Antony Towl, Leo Robbins and Andy Rowe each bagged a brace of wins. Exeter’s Chris Bowker came out of retirement to partner Sunam Uddin and was rewarded with 3 wins.
 
St Leonards A picked up their 5th win of the season, beating St Leonards B 7-2. Mark Newson and Tim Wardale starred with 3 wins for the A team, whilst the B team pairing of Andy Rowe and Antony Towl played some outstanding badminton to bag 2 wins.
 
The match between Queens B and St Leonards B was a tense affair, with the overall result being decided by the final rubber. Antony Towl and Ian Jameson held their nerve to beat the Queens pairing of Nathan Scase and Matt Burnett 11-21, 21-10,21-15 to secure a 5-4 win for the Saints. The Queens combo of Nick Masson and Nick Mingo finished unbeaten after a superb fightback to beat the Saints pair of Andy Rowe and Rami Yedidi 19-21, 22-20, 21-17.
 
In Division 1 Exeter A reached the halfway point of the season with their 5th consecutive win - a convincing 8-1 win over 2nd placed Cranford. The pairings of Russ Walker/ Jamie Roberton and Sam Lees/ Jamie Samuels led the rout with 3 wins apiece with reserves Tom Phillips and Sunam Uddin pitching in with 2 wins. Joe Davis and Zach Phillips salvaged a point for Cranford.
 
 
In Division 3 Ringswell B’s run of all their matches being decided by the scoreline 5-4 continues. A 2 pair Ringswell B team of John Phillips, Chris Gould, Phil Matthews and Tim Hall recovered from 4-1 down to beat Exeter D 5-4.
 
Ringswell B’s 5-4 win over Honiton was set up by 3 wins for John Phillips with Andy Latham. James Goodey and Simon Walker were the pick of the Honiton pairs with 2 wins.
 
Honiton stormed to an 8-1 win over Exeter C, thanks to unbeaten performances from Ethan Leach/Roger Tucker and Rowan Davey/Matt Durrant. Teammates Jay Sweetman and Simon Walker won 2 out of 3, losing to the Exeter pair of Andy Sands and David Fairbairn 21-11, 12-21, 21-10.
