In Division 1, St Leonards A’s Louise Gubbin, Anne White, Kay Brewer and Astrid Janssens triumphed 4-2 over University. University’s Natasha Drew won two rubbers when pairing Natalie Kent and Lucy Manley in turn. University suffered a further defeat at the hands of Cranford’s Alice Feesey, Nikita Smethurst, new recruit Lisa Stevens and Rowan Despard, this time with a 5-1 scoreline. University’s point was picked up by Natasha Hall and Lucy Manley.
Exeter’s Sue Colwill (previously of Queens) , Julia Melling, Suzanne Owens and Hannah Oxley also convincingly defeated University 6-0 in straight sets. Exeter beat Ringswell A 4 -2. Ringswell’s Claire Harrison made her debut in the League count by winning two rubbers partnering Sylvia Child and Becky Bailey respectively. Ringswell A’s fortunes changed when they beat Cranford 4-2. Cranford’s points were scored by Rowan Despard partnering Nikita Smethurst and Claire Hannah in turn.
In Division 2, Ringswell B’s Sharon Strong, Anne Jones, Di Brooker and Jeanette Allen enjoyed a 6-0 victory over Sidmouth although Sidmouth pushed Ringswell to three ends in two rubbers. St Leonards B’s Sue Banks, Debbie Stewart, Jill McCord and Jess Hand also beat Otter Vale 6-0 although it was a closely–fought match with half of the rubbers decided over three games.
Clyst Vale’s Anne Drury, Imogen Batton, Di Horne and Lucy Ferrier recorded a strong win over Sidmouth 5-1. Sidmouth’s point was deservedly won by Ruth Scrivens and Hilary Herd over three ends.
In Division 3A, St Leonards C’s Rachel Marson, Sharon May, Elaine Nicholson and Nicola Anslow beat St Leonards D 6-0 in straight sets. However, Honiton’s Maureen Borer, Helena Williams, Janet Ingram and Sue Fallows clinched a 4-2 victory over St Leonards C 4-2. The Saints’ points were both picked up by Sharon May partnering Rachel Marson and Anne Trevevna in turn.
Chulmleigh’s Karen Parish, Hannah Hernon, Ruth Crumby and Michell Wylde set the standard by beating Raleigh 6-0 without dropping a game. Chulmleigh also recorded a 6-0 scoreline over a three-player St Leonards D and a 5-1 win over a three-player St Leonards C. St Leonards C’s point was picked up by Sharon May and Deirbhle O’Reilly in three ends.
