Chulmleigh chuffed with debut win

Division 3B newcomers Chumleigh celebrated with a win in their first ever Mens match in the Exeter League, coming from behind to edge out Exeter D 5-4. Ben Hamill and Adrian Bourner’s 3 wins laid the foundations but it took Paul Smith and Matt Older to win the final rubber 21-13, 18-21, 21-8 to secure the victory.
The St Leonards D v Clyst Vale match was memorable for some very tight games. The Clyst Vale pair of Patrick Cordey and Dan Cordey snatched victory from the Saints pair of Mark Stanley/Chris Neil 23-25, 21-18, 30-29 with the result settled by a serve into the net! However the Saints pairs of James Lam/James Tribe (3), and Barrie Sharman/Christie Clarke (2) put the St Leonards team on course for a 7-2 win.
In Division 3A, the Langlois family helped Cranford B to a 7-2 win over Otter Vale. Father Bernard partnered Paul Samme to 3 wins and their performance was matched by son Jack and his partner Tom Ellis. The Otter Vale combos of Mark Brown/Brian Deem and Ray Puttick/Dan Clark picked up a point each.
Steve Rice returned from injury to help Division 2 leaders Ringswell A extend their advantage with an emphatic 9-0 win over St Leonards B.
Queens B have had mixed fortunes this season. An 8-1 loss to University was followed up by a 5-4 win over St Leonards A. The student pairings of Toby Hong and Andrew Wong, Alex Banks and Steven Ford impressed with 3 wins apiece against Queens B.
Queens B captain Ed Moffatt praised his team as they claimed their 1st win of the season in a tight match against St Leonards A. Ed said “The whole team – Lloyd Skinner, Nathan Scase, Emanuel Sapin, Mike Powell, Andy Hawkins - put in a great performance which hopefully we can maintain as the season progresses”. Ben Wijay in his final match for the Saints before heading back to Australia put in another flawless display alongside his partner Tim Wardale.
Exeter C fielded their full team against St Leonards B and were rewarded with an 8-1 win – their first of the season. The Exeter pairs of Jack Southcott/Alex Bulley and Alastair Banks/Dave Harland were unbeaten with veterans Chris Bowker and John Phillips bagging a brace of wins. John Gubbin and Ali Rehemi salvaged a point for the Saints.
The Division 1 Exeter A team of Sam Owens, Ryan Parker-Bowker, Jamie Samuels, Gareth Pearse, Geoff Littler and Rob Flack and have opened up an emphatic gap at the top of the Division after beating Sidmouth A 9-0.
They followed up with a convincing 7-2 win over second placed Cranford A 7-2. Queens A are still searching for their 1st win after Cranford A beat them 7-2.
