Queens Ladies winners to the fore

Division 1 champions Ringswell A have made the perfect start in their bid to win the title for a 3rd successive season. 3 matches in and they have scored maximum points.

The team of Jess Hill, Claire Harrison, Erin Whitten and Liz Marker y started with a 6-0 win over Ringswell B. They followed this up with a further 6 – 0 win over newly  promoted  Chulmleigh, with Sharon Strong replacing Liz for Ringswell A.

With St Leonards only able to field 3 Ladies, Ringswell had a comfortable 6-0 win over them

Until that match St Leonards had also started the season well.  They had a 6-0 walkover over Ringswell B, as they were unable to raise a team. The Saints ladies of Louise Gubbin, Cherry Law, Sue Banks and reserve Sharon May then ran out 5 – 1 victors over Exeter. Julia Melling and Katie Scotter salvaged a point for Exeter.

Ringswell B’s injury woes meant they had to forfeit their match with Queens, handing Queens a 6-0 walkover.

The Queens team of Sarah Preece, Jackie Kirby, Amy Housley and Mandy Bishop had to work a bit harder to earn their 2nd 6-0 win of the season. That came at the expense of Exeter.

Grace Lee and Leorna Herkes stepped in for Sarah and Amy for the Queens trip up the road to Chulmleigh. The drive was well worth it as they came away with yet another 6 – 0 win.

Otter Vale A started their campaign with a 6-0 reverse at the hands of Queens. Queens now have a perfect 24 points from their first 4 matches and it looks like the title race is between them and Ringswell A.

The Exeter team of Julia Melling, Stacey Horne, Katie Scotter and Hazel Wong  got into the winning ways with a 6-0 win over the Ringswell B team of Liz Marker, Sylvia Child, Sharon Strong  and Anne Jones

In Division 2 Otter Vale B lead the way after a 6-0 win over club mates Otter Vale C. The team of June Goode, Heather Rake, Claire Ross, Mya Walker won all their rubbers in straight games , but the C team fought gallantly.

Otter Vale B were then gifted a 6-0 walkover when Sidmouth were unable to raise a team.

Sidmouth and Cranford were evenly matched and the final score of 3-3 reflected that. The Sidmouth ladies of Grace Williams, Sarah Bond, Linda McCracken and Theresa Bisson led the match but never by more than one rubber.  Going into the final rubber they led 3-2, but once again Cranford fought back with Sharon Young and Liz Tipura winning the final rubber 21-10, 21-11 to secure the draw.

An unchanged Cranford Team of Liane O’Donnell, Sharon Young, Mo Martin and Liz Tripura ended up on the losing side 4-2 against Otter Vale C. This was a closely contested match with 4 of the 6 rubbers going to a decisive 3rd game. Anne Drury starred for Otter Vale and was well supported by Sue O’Brien, Maxine Sweetman and Margo Skull.

Cranford tasted success in their  3rd match – a 5-1 win over Honiton. The scoreline does not reflect the closeness of some of the rubbers. Mary White and Sue Fallows deservedly earned a point for Honiton.
