Sam has double success at League Tournament


 There was a double success for Sam Owens at this year’s Exeter and District Badminton League’s Annual Tournament.  Sam won the doubles with his brother, Callum, and mixed doubles title with his mother, Suzanne.The new Men’s Singles champion is Zac Phillips who defeated the number one seed, Sam Owens, in his semi-final match and the holder and number two seed, Jamie Roberton, in the final.

Queens are the 2016 Knockout Winners


The finals of the 2016 Knockout Competition were held at the Riverside Leisure Centre, Exeter on Saturday 5th March.  In the main event Queens (-14) beat Otter Vale (+7) by 45 points.  In the plate final, Ringswell B (+9) beat Honiton (+9) by 57 points.

 10 pairs took part in the 2016 Mixed Masters Handicapped Tournament. The Pairs were split into 2 groups, played on a round robin basis, with the winner of each Group progressing to a Final. Di Brooker and Brian Jeary of Ringswell (+1) took full control of their group and booked their spot in the final by winning 7 out of 8 games, dropping only 2 points in the process. Hat trick of wins for Andy Rowe in Masters Tournament


 The 2015/2016 Masters Levels Tournament produced some thrillingly close badminton. The Mens event was played as a round robin event with 7 pairs. Andy Rowe of St Leonards won the title for the 3rd time, this year partnered with Phil Matthews also of St Leonards. The pair playing off a handicap of -3 played some fine badminton of stubborn defending mixed with attacking play on their way to winning 6 out of 7 games and a total score of 125 points.

Queens on top


The 2016/17 season has kicked off with a raft of “in house” derbies. In Division 1 reigning champions Queens A overcame newly promoted Queens B 6-3, with maximum scores for Jamie Roberton/Oscar Mo and Zac Phillips/Nathan Scase.Queens A had an almightly battle with last years runners-up, Exeter A,  but edged the win 5-4. DCBA Offer to help fund Level 2 Coaching


At a recent meeting of the Devon County Badminton Association (DCBA), a proposal was put forward that the DCBA assist coaches with the financial cost of level 2 training.This was agreed unanimously by the DCBA committee and a figure of £75 was agreed upon.The funding will only be awarded to those who complete and pass the course. In Division 1, all matches have been played.  Cranford A’s Nikita Smethurst, Claire Hannah, Sandra Lear and Rowan Despard enjoyed a 6-0 win over Ringswell A and, with Leanne Debenham back in place of Sandra, followed this by beating Exeter 6-0 as well in their final match.  Exeter  A remain at the  top of Division 1  after a 7-2 victory over Ringswell A. Near perfect start for Queens


 Queens are celebrating a near perfect start to their season with 3 wins in Division 2a.  Their 7-2 win over Ringswell B was a closer encounter than the score line suggests with five rubbers going to a deciding 3rd game. They then went on to beat both Otter Vale A and St Leonards B 9-0. Sarah Preece and Darren Frisby were unbeaten in all three matches, as was Ben Herbert, partnered by Bronya Pike in the Ringswell B and Otter Vale A fixtures and with Kate Povey against St Leonards B.

Chulmleigh chuffed with debut win


Division 3B newcomers Chumleigh celebrated with a win in their first ever Mens match in the Exeter League, coming from behind to edge out Exeter D 5-4. In Division 1, St Leonards A’s Louise Gubbin, Anne Stanley, Kay Brewer and Sue Banks convincingly beat St Leonards B 6-0. St Leonards C pip Honiton to Div 3 glory
